Kratkaia Istoriia Drevnepravoslavnoi (Staroobriadcheskoi) Tserkvi: [A Short history of the Old Orthodox (Old Belief) Church: ] by A Short history of the Old Orthodox (Old Belief) Church:

This is the first publication of a work written in the 1930s by a prominent historian and apologist of the Old Believer's faith Fedor Mel'nikov (1874-1960), in exile in Romania after the Communist revolution. The book presents the tragic and complicated fate of the Old believers from the Great Schism of the Russian Orthodox Church in the middle of the 17th century through the heavy period of government persecutions to the short "Golden age" of religious tolerance in the beginning of the 20th century before the Revolution. In the center of this research is Belo-Krinitskoe Soglasie, the branch of Old Believers which succeeded in forming a proper Church. The author utilizes rich and various historical sources, and paints a bright picture of the Old Believers life and struggle for getting a Church hierarchy and priesthood, and their efforts to preserve the Orthodox theological doctrine and traditional religious culture faithful to the image of Holy Rus'. In the preface the editors underline the main tendency of the book to the unification of Old-believers and the official Russian Church based on the true Orthodox faith. Bibliographical references.
